Built to Be Seen by Hornets
The new Ornetin UV Trap builds on the proven 2021 design and introduces a breakthrough innovation: a UV-reflective surface that makes the trap highly visible to hornets. With this visual enhancement, hornets—especially founding queens in spring—are more likely to spot the trap from a greater distance.
Developed using five years of field experience and shaped by the feedback of countless users, Ornetin UV is the result of real-world learning and continuous refinement.
A New Visual Technology
The material used in Ornetin UV is treated to reflect ambient light across the spectrum visible to hornets—especially in the UV-A range, which is invisible to humans. Compared to conventional traps, this treatment improves visual detection by over 80%.
Interchangeable Seasonal Nozzles
Selectivity is improved too with a set of interchangeable nozles dedicated to Vespa velutina queen or worker trapping but also a second pair of them dedicated to Vespa Orientalis.

Designed in Béarn by The BroodMinder team and manufactured in the Basque Country in France, Ornetin UV combines performance, durability, and sustainable design for those serious about hornet population control.

Material:
- Ornetin is manufactured using an industrial injection-molding process in recyclable High Density Polyethylene (HDPE). This material is weatherproof and UV-resistant. It washes perfectly and will last for many years of use.
- Plugs and nozzles are manufactured in PETG
Maintenance
- Behind us are the days of 3D printing, which helped us get the concept off the ground in 2021-2022, but was less robust and more sensitive to temperature (no hot water, no dishwasher).
- HDPE Ornetins are more compact and homogeneous. The surface roughness is also controlled and specially chosen to enable hornets to grip the surface with their paws, without allowing dirt to stick.
- Simply run the trap under a jet of water, and it's ready for use again and again.
- The UV reflective treatment is embedded into the material, and does not wear.
Instalación
There's mainly two trapping setups depending on the season:
In spring with Queen trapping remove the green plugs to let Vespa germanica get out and use the blue nozzle. Best bait for that period is red fruit syrup / blond beer / white wine at 33%. Fill in 1cm deep and place the trap in vertical position.
In summer and autumn put back the green plugs and switch to the violet nozzle. Best bait at that period is sugar syrup poured on an absorbent material like straw. Place the trap horizontal on the ground or hanging.
